The IT Challenge

As those of us who work in and around IT would happily say until blue in the face, technology can and should play a key role in tackling many of the biggest challenges - and most of the smaller ones too.

However, in a world of economic uncertainty, constant and increasing pressure to open up access to a wide range of applications and sensitive data, but still keep everything efficient, available in or outside core business hours, and most importantly, keep everything secure, It’s symptomatic of the challenge that everyone in IT clearly faces. It's therefore crucial that IT experts need better relationships and more productive conversations with business peers, and its also essential that they have a louder and more influential voice at the very highest levels of decision making - a voice that seems currently not always to exist.

The IT community cannot simply sit at its laptop and moan about the fact that nobody is listening or understanding. The need to engage and be engaged more widely, with the ability to demonstrate genuine technology solutions to problems which address the IT challenge, achieve compliance, and take businesses forward, but still massage the need to maintain or reduce costs is at its highest. It's the business-IT divide that exists on a global scale.

So..what if we ignore this? Probably a future where IT is seen as a hindrance not an enabler, a problem not an opportunity, where IT experts are seen as blockers not innovators.

As IT and communications bring businesses and partners together and facilitate growth, the time for IT to be allowed to contribute is now, and the opportunity for IT has rarely been greater.
