Mobile Infrastructure
The rise of smartphone is driving a rapid convergence between the mobile industry
and the internet. These mobile computers are changing the way mobile networks are
built,
and juniper´s long leadership in IP/MPLS infrastructure is helping operators navigate
this transition with cutting-edge products...
IP/MPLS Backbone Routers
Juniper has long been a leading supplier of IP/MPLS backbone routers for both wireline and mobile operators, including Juniper Networks M Series Multiservice Edge Routers, MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers and T Series Core Routers. Juniper extends its leadership here with cutting-edge core products such as Juniper Networks PTX Series Packet Transport Switches. All Juniper routers run Juniper Networks Junos operating system, widely regarded as the most feature-rich, flexible and modern OS in the mobile industry.
Gi Network Services
Juniper is a leader in products for Gi networks that sit between the GGSN (or home agent in a CDMA network) and the end network, and offer services such as carrier-grade NAT, stateful firewall, server load balancing, DNS, video and Web optimization, switching/routing, VPNs and more. The M Series, MX Series routers and Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways have all been broadly deployed in these applications and are well suited to providing best-in-class services at very high speeds through the hardware acceleration of many functions.
Mobile Packet Core
Juniper Networks MobileNext solution represents Juniper’s entry into the mobile packet core with a complete end-to-end solution. We have long been a supplier of the technology that forms the basis for the very successful Ericsson GGSN, the most broadly deployed mobile packet gateway in the industry. With the MobileNext solution, we are introducing a product that has been architected from the beginning to focus on a smartphone-centric world that demands scalability, security and service velocity.

Mobile Packet Core
Juniper Networks MobileNext solution has been architected to meet the needs of a smartphone-centric world that includes greatly increased performance with services enabled, integrated security and an open architecture to increase service velocity.
MobileNext solution—The world´s first open mobile core.
The elements of the MobileNext solution include Juniper Networks MobileNext Broadband Gateway, which provides the S/P-GW + GGSN + IP services functions; Juniper Networks MobileNext Control Gateway, which provides the MME + SGSN functions; and Juniper Networks MobileNext Policy Manager.

MobileNext Broadband GatewayThe MobileNext Broadband Gateway provides the S/P-GW + GGSN functions in a mobile packet core. It is built on Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers and runs Juniper Networks Junos operating system. There are a number of compelling advantages that come with building the MobileNext Broadband Gateway on the MX Series including hardware acceleration of high-touch services, leveraging a widely deployed high-performance edge router, a strong suite of mobile and IP services, a flexible architecture, a modern OS in Juniper Networks Junos operating system and much more.

MobileNext Control GatewayThe MobileNext Control Gateway provides the MME + SGSN functions in a mobile packet core. The rise of the smartphone is putting an enormous load on the control plane, and the MobileNext Control Gateway has been designed to address this challenge. In addition to performance, the MobileNext Control Gateway has also implemented a host of services that are focused squarely on the needs of today’s smartphone-centric mobile operators including multi-PLMN (public land mobile network) support, dynamic tracking area updates, any G support and much more.

MobileNext Policy ManagerPolicy control is rapidly becoming an essential ingredient in a mobile packet core. The early days of flat-rate, unlimited billing plans are being replaced with a variety of models that are much more usage sensitive. Policy control is a key piece of this transition as it can be used to implement tiered billing models, fair usage (to control heavy users), roaming controls (to prevent bill shock) and a lot more. Juniper Networks is working with Openet and Bridgewater Systems, two of the leaders in this space, to deliver compelling solutions to its customers.

GI Network Services
Juniper´s Gi network service providers to respond to rapidly increasing mobile data traffic with networks that have greater scalability and resiliency, with lower cost, better manageability and increased service velocity.
The rapid acceleration in mobile data traffic is requiring Gi networks to have greater scalability and resiliency, with lower cost, better manageability and increased service velocity. In addition to the traditional services such as carrier- grade NAT and DNS, new services like mobile video optimization must be integrated into these networks. Juniper Networks Service Delivery Gateway has been designed specifically to support the services and scale inherent in Gi networking.
Service Delivery Gateway
The Service Delivery Gateway (SDG) runs on the industry-leading Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers running Juniper Networks Junos operating system. The SDG can consolidate a host of different Gi network services and perform them on a single pass through the system. By hosting the SDG on the MX Series routers, many Gi services can be hardware accelerated.
This is especially valuable in a mobile world where traffic is growing 100 percent year over year. Services enabled by the SDG include carrier-grade NAT, stateful firewall, SLB, routing and switching, VPNs, video optimization and more. The SDG can sit on the Gi interface of a legacy GGSN and offload services. SDG services can also run in the MobileNext Broadband Gateway to give the operator greater flexibility.
Video Optimization
Video traffic represents approximately 40 percent of today’s mobile data traffic and that number is expected to grow to 65 percent by 2014, putting a tremendous strain on mobile networks. Mobile operators are looking for the most cost-effective way to handle all this traffic. Video optimization solutions running on Gi networks have proven to be a very compelling solution. Juniper Networks Mobile Video Optimization solution leverages the SDG, Juniper Networks Media Flow and optimization technology from Juniper’s partner Openwave.
